Upcoming Shows: Going To See The Lillingtons (Again)!

The Lillingtons are one of the best punk bands over the last two decades. This weekend they will be in Grand Rapids for a show at the Pyramid Scheme Bar. The bands MakeWar, Paper Thin and New Architects are also playing the show, but I’ve never heard of any of them. I did, however, make sure to get my ticket a few weeks ago as the venue is quite small.

It has only been about 7 months since the last time I caught The Lillingons (yes, my review for the 88 Fingers Louie/Lillingtons Chicago show last August will be posted soon… [maybe]) but I can’t get enough of their live show. I’ve met Kody a few times, going back to the late 90’s, so hopefully I’ll get a chance to catch up with him.

Bonus: My good friend and old roommate Mike will be there as well, so this show will be fucking rad!

Upcoming Shows: Going to see Propagandhi!

Propagandhi have been one of the top skatepunk/thrash bands for two decades now. I’ve had only a handful of opportunities to catch these Canadian bastards and something always prevented me from attending the show.

I had tickets but was hospitalized on the morning of the show with major kidney stones. I think it was 2001 when they were on tour with J Church (RIP Lance) and Avail. I could not convince the doctor to release me because I was driving and had a lot of Demerol flowing through my veins and they said I would spend the 6 hour round-trip drive and entire concert in major pain, puking and pissing blood. PUNK FUCKING ROCK!!! So, my girlfriend was pissed, I was passing stones, and even if she had driven, the doctor told me I would be “damn stupid” to go. He actually said “damn stupid”! Does he not know the motherfucking healing power of Propagandhi?

Anywho, I still have that pair of unused tickets and I don’t have that angry girlfriend anymore, so dammit, I’m going to try really fucking hard to see Propagandhi while they still tour. The March show is at my favorite venue in Chicago, The Metro (I saw 88 Fingers Louie and The Lillingtons there a few months ago – a review of that show is forthcoming), so I’m grabbing tickets again. Bring it on kidney stones, you calcium-based fuck faces!

Upcoming Shows: Going to see 88 Fingers Louie and The Lillingtons!

Just got my ticket last night! In about three weeks I will be in Chicago for the record release party for the new 88 Fingers Louie album Thank You For Being A Friend (Bird Attack Radio And Records). As an added bonus, I will get to see The Lillingtons for the fourth time. They are fantastic live and their shows are a lot of fun. The show also features two more Chicago-area bands Able Baker Fox and Evil Engine.

I am totally stoked. I have had plans on two occasions to catch 88 Fingers Louie years ago and things didn’t pan out. Then they broke up and I figured I missed out. However, they have had a series of shows and are finally releasing new material. So now I have my ticket and I will be there this time!
